Moses Yigibalom, a Young Papuan Entrepreneur Who Developed Lanny Jaya Coffee to the National Market

Wamena – Nies World.tv's Daily Vlog features the inspiring story of Moses Yigibalom, a young entrepreneur, coffee farmer, barista, and owner of a specialty coffee shop in Lanny Jaya, Kopi Lani Mendek.

During his visit to Kopi Tiom, Moses shared his long journey building a coffee business from scratch. He started the business in 2016 with an initial capital of only IDR 60,000. Armed with perseverance and a love of local coffee, Moses gradually developed the potential of authentic coffee from the Papuan Mountains until it penetrated the national market.

Moses is directly involved in the entire coffee production process. He manages the coffee plantation inherited from his parents in Tiom District, Lanny Jaya Regency, from planting, tending, and harvesting the coffee, sorting the cherries, roasting the beans, and blending the coffee as a barista.

Going Bankrupt 16 Times

Moses' journey in building his business was not easy. He admitted to going bankrupt 16 times. However, these failures did not deter him.

By continuously learning and improving his business management methods, Moses was ultimately able to sustain his business. He then founded a coffee shop serving the authentic taste of Lanny Jaya coffee.

The shop now operates under the name Nina Kopi Purompaga Mendek. It is located on Jalan Yos Sudarso, Wamena, right in front of the Cartenz Hotel, Jayawijaya Regency.

Embracing Local Farmers

For Moses, the coffee business is not just about personal profit. He also strives to build a coffee ecosystem that involves the local community, especially the farmers in Lanny Jaya.

Moses actively engages with fellow farmers and initiated a coffee community of dozens of farmers. The community was formed to strengthen collaboration, improve production quality, and encourage the growth of the creative economy in the region.

In addition to producing packaged coffee under the Lani Mendek label, Moses is also a driving force behind the creative industry for young people in the Papua Highlands region. He encourages the younger generation to see coffee as a business opportunity and part of regional identity.

Initiator of the 2026 Baliem Brewing Competition

In mid-October 2026, Moses was named the main initiator of the 2026 Baliem Brewing Competition.

The competition was held to provide a platform for talented young baristas in the Papua Highlands. Through this initiative, Moses hopes that more young people will dare to develop their skills, create innovations, and contribute to the growth of the local coffee industry.

The story of Moses Yigibalom demonstrates that limited capital is not a barrier to growth. From an initial capital of IDR 60,000, facing 16 bankruptcies, to successfully expanding Lanny Jaya coffee to the national market, this journey is a testament to the importance of perseverance, courage, and commitment to regional potential.
