WAMENA, Nies World.TV - The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of the Papua Mountains Province has begun finalizing preparations for the inauguration of KONI officials in eight regencies. The inauguration is scheduled for November 20, 2026, in Wamena, followed by technical guidance (Bimtek) on November 21, 2026.
The Daily Chair of the KONI of the Papua Mountains Province, Paul Wetipo, stated that preparations for the inauguration were one of the main agenda items at the KONI leadership meeting with the field coordinators held in Wamena on Tuesday evening (October 20, 2026).
"Greetings from sports. Today, October 20, 2026, we have just concluded a KONI leadership meeting with the field coordinators to discuss several important agenda items. The first item on the agenda was the inauguration of KONI officials in the eight regencies," said Paul Wetipo after the meeting.
He explained that the decrees (SK) regarding the KONI management in the eight regencies had been signed by the KONI General Chair. Thus, the next step is to prepare for the inauguration so that the entire management can immediately begin their duties.
"About two to three weeks ago, the decree was completed and signed by the General Chairperson. We hope that all KONI administrators in the eight regencies have received the decree. We have now agreed to form a committee to handle all the detailed inauguration preparations," he said.
Paul stated that, based on the agreement at the meeting, the inauguration of the KONI administrators in the eight regencies is planned to be centralized in Wamena. However, the technical details of the implementation, including the exact schedule, will be communicated further by the established committee.
According to him, the KONI General Chairperson has announced the plan for the inauguration on November 20, 2026. If there are no changes, the event will be followed by a technical guidance meeting on November 21, 2026.
"If November 20 is held, the inauguration will be held on the first day, followed by the technical guidance meeting on November 21. If there are any changes to the schedule, we will certainly inform you," he said.
Technical Guidance Provides Professional Development for Administrators
Paul emphasized that Technical Guidance is an important part of the series of activities. Through this activity, each administrator is expected to understand the duties, functions, and responsibilities of each division so they can work in a focused manner upon returning to their respective districts.
He hopes that the KONI administrators in the eight districts will not only participate in the ceremonial inauguration but will also be able to implement concrete work programs to promote the advancement of sports in Highland Papua.
"This Technical Guidance is very important because it will provide guidance on the duties of each division. So, after the inauguration and return to their regions, each administrator can immediately begin working in their respective fields," he explained.
Strengthening Coordination Towards Pre-PON and PON
Furthermore, Paul encouraged all KONI administrators in the eight districts to strengthen cooperation and coordination in facing the upcoming sports agenda, particularly in preparation for the National Sports Week (PON).
According to him, a clear division of duties between the provincial KONI and the district KONI is a crucial factor in building focused sports development and preparing Papuan athletes to compete at the national level.
"We ask for cooperation from all administrators in the eight districts. The major agenda ahead, especially leading up to the Pre-PON and PON, requires the cooperation of all parties. Each district has its own tasks to carry out," he emphasized.
He added that the established committee will provide more detailed information regarding the technical aspects of the inauguration and subsequent agendas once all preparations are complete.
With the planned inauguration, the Papua Mountains Sports Committee (KONI) hopes that coordination between sports organizations at the provincial and district levels will become more solid, so that athlete development programs can run more effectively and sustainably.
